Durante mayo de 1983 la banda comenzó a escribir y hacer demos y grabaciones en un chalet cerca de Cannes sobre la costa azul de Francia, pero la concentración no era total debido a las interminables fiestas que se sucedían a menudo por allí, de todos modos varias canciones fueron completadas, incluyendo esta canción llamada como luego se llamaría el álbum, pero que nunca fue finalizada y antes de que fuera desechada se utilizo parte de la base como ritmo para “The Seventh Stranger”que si apareció en el álbum.
Dos grabaciones de esta canción han aparecido en bootlegs, la primera versión de 4:01 tiene a Simon en la voz, la segunda versión de dudoso origen dura 3:39, y se cree que es Andy o John en la voz, pero la banda ha dicho que todos los demos sobre este álbum son falsificaciones hechas por quien sabe que intereses tenia.
Según Simon la frase de “siete y el tigre harapiento” es una metáfora de ellos cinco, Simon, John, Andy, Nick y Roger mas los hermanos Paul y Michael Berrow, managers por esa época de la banda y el tigre harapiento seria, la fama.
